Artists and crafters, 130 of them, will be selling their creations during the second annual Craft Lake City, celebrating the do-it-yourself movement.

The event, from 2 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 14, will be held on Gallivan Avenue, 239 S. Main St., behind the Wells Fargo building in downtown salt Lake City.

Organizers say affordable items, such as silk-screened posters, clothing, knitted items and jewelry, will be on sale. The event also will feature food, craft demonstrations, street performers and musical acts.

Admission is free.

In addition, at 4:40 p.m., on Aug. 15, the documentary film, "Handmade Nation," will be shown at the Tower Theatre, 876 E. 900 South. Tickets are $5, and may be purchased at the door or online by visiting www.slcff.com.

"People came out to last year's Craft Lake City to buy the art and crafts we'd been working so hard to make," said jewelry maker Kali Mellus. "It's great to feel like your city is supporting you as full-time artists and appreciates what you do."

Organizers say a craft movement is taking place in spare bedrooms, family rooms and garages. Folks are making and selling their own goods, as opposed to products coming from sweatshops and big-business practices.
