Two small fires erupted near each other Sunday morning and were quickly extinguished by the Salt Lake City Fire Department.

One of the blazes tore through a dumpster full of cardboard and wood and some pallets outside a warehouse near 950 South and 400 West. The fire started about 11 a.m. and sent black and white smoke into the air on the west side of the city.

Just around the corner, at the same time, crews extinguished a small brush fire on the corner of 900 South and 500 West.

The cause of the fires is under investigation.
