Kailey Christensen may not be Wonder Woman, but the Spanish Fork junior pitcher put on a superhero-like performance this past week.
Between Wednesday afternoon and Friday evening, Christensen started and pitched every game for the Dons as they captured the girls' 4A softball title. Pitching all but one inning in six games in three days, the right-hander finished the three-day marathon with a record of 5-1.
"We left it up to her," said head coach Don Andrews. "She pitched every game, and as long as her shoulder wasn't hurting we were going to leave it up to her."
Christensen and catcher Lyndsey Healey made it easy for Andrews, as the coach called only one pitch in the championship game. Giving Healey all the credit for calling a great game, Andrews stood in the background when it was over.
"There were times I didn't think that we were going to make it," Christensen said. "But we did, we deserved it, and we worked hard for it."
The junior saved her best performance for the last day of the tournament, as she won three games within seven hours to give her team a championship. After Healey's go-ahead solo home run in the sixth, Christensen was working on pure adrenaline in the seventh, as she threw her hardest in the final inning.
"It just feels so stinking good," Christensen said. "And it feels even better to have double-dipped Tooele."
