Lehi police Lt. Darren Paul has been named the new police chief, city officials announced Monday.

Paul will start his new position immediately, according to a Lehi City news release.

The new chief has been in law enforcement — and with the Lehi Police Department — for 20 years. He has served as a patrol officer, detective and sergeant before being named lieutenant over the patrol division seven years ago.

"I am excited and humbled at the opportunity to serve our community as the police chief," Paul said in a news release. "I look forward to working with the outstanding officers in the Lehi Police Department to provide the best possible public safety services to the citizens of Lehi."

Paul fills the vacancy left by former Chief Chad Smith, who retired in September after serving as police chief for 12 years.
