U.S, Rep.-elect Mia Love announced Monday she has hired veteran KSL political reporter Rich Piatt as her communications director.

"I am thrilled to have someone with Richard's experience on my staff," Love said in a statement. "I am confident he will assist me in my efforts to represent the people of the 4th District."

A native of Michigan and a graduate of Michigan State University, Piatt has worked as a reporter and anchor at KSL-TV for 16 years and is among the leading political reporters in the state. He has won numerous journalism awards and was nominated for two regional Emmy awards.

Piatt said he recognizes viewers might be shocked that he is leaving broadcasting, but he couldn't skip his new opportunity.

"I have been working on my dream job my entire career," Piatt said in a statement. "But this is a unique opportunity that I can't pass up. I'm excited to be part of the political process from the inside out, not the other way around."
