A smoke alarm, quick-acting homeowners and the close proximity of firefighters are being credited with keeping a fast-moving blaze contained to an Ogden garage.

Deputy Ogden Fire Chief Eric Bauman said the family living at 960 Simoron Drive had just returned home and parked their car inside the garage. About 20 minutes later, just after 5 p.m., a smoke alarm sounded and smoke and flames were discovered pouring from the garage.

The family evacuated the home and called 911. Crews from nearby fire stations arrived on scene within a few minutes and quickly doused the fire.

Damage was estimated at $30,000, but the house itself remained undamaged and the family was not displaced, Bauman said.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire in the car remained under investigation.
