The talent of Katie Lee is as diverse, wide and embracing as the American West landscape she celebrates—even if she keeps a special place in her heart for the Glen Canyon, also known as Powell Reservoir without all the water that submerged its breathtaking beauty.

A native of Arizona, Lee worked in entertainment as an actress on screen and stage before becoming a river guide, then a folk music performer and, toward the last stage of her multi-faceted life, a celebrated author. Her books include A History of the American Cowboy in Song and Ten Thousand Goddam Cattle. Through all those transformations she's remained a tireless environmental activist on behalf of the Glen Canyon refuge that inspires so much of her work, becoming a member of the Glen Canyon Institute's advisory board.

Lee's latest book, The Ballad of a Gutless Ditch, features illustrations from beloved Arizona artist Robin Anderson. Lee will read from and sign her new book May 11 at a free event at Ken Sanders Rare Books downtown.
