Friday's meet at the Huntsman Center might have been about celebrating 40 years of past success, but leave it to the current Utes to earn their own place in gymnastics history.

Tory Wilson and Georgia Dabritz led the No. 4 Utes (7-0, 3-0) in a 197.825-194.1 win over Arizona State (1-7, 0-3) by earning back-to-back 10s on the vault.

They were the first to accomplish the feat since Kristen Kenoyer and Aimee Trepanier did so on the floor in 1993.

They knew it was special, as did the 14,400 fans in attendance who gave them a standing ovation.

"There was an energy that I haven't felt before," Wilson said of the 10s. "That was amazing."

The perfect score was Wilson's second. Her first was in 2013.

Dabritz scored a 10 on the uneven bars last week in the Utes' win at Arizona. She has three 10s on the uneven bars, one on the floor and one on the vault.

Dabritz won the all-around with a 39.675. She and her teammates dedicated the win to her club coach, Laura Tebo, who died this week after a battle with cancer.

Her coach would have been proud of Dabritz' performance, especially that perfect vault.

"I was so excited for Tory, I actually got nervous because it was such a beautiful vault," Dabritz said. "I really had to stop thinking about it and focus on myself."

Utah finished the rotation with a 49.625, sending the Utes well on their way to another big win.

Last week, Utah beat the Wildcats, 197.85-196.375, and the Utes felt they'd finally put all the so-called pieces together and tied Oklahoma for the highest score in the nation.

That the Utes turned around and delivered a similar performance on Friday made them even more confident they'd reached a new level of success.

"We wanted to continue with that demeanor we had last week," Utah coach Greg Marsden said. "We thought it would be great if we could score similar, and we did. We're not seeing anything big that is wrong, just little things, and they are slowly but surely getting better."

The Utes followed the vault with a solid 49.475 on the uneven bars, led by a 9.95 from Dabritz, then scored 49.25 on the balance beam, the second highest score of the season in the event.

Sophomore Baely Rowe led the effort with a 9.9.

Floor was another strong showing. Dabritz delivered a 9.95 while Corrie Lothrop scored 9.925.

She finished her routine with the pose Trepanier illustrated on a billboard in 1993 that caused controversy.

"I thought it would be cool to bring it back," Lothrop said. "I'd been waiting all season to do that."

It was a nod to the past by a gymnast whose future, and that of her team's looks very good.

"It couldn't have been scripted any better," Marsden said of the night. "Those 10s wound up the crowd, and the end of the meet, we finished it off on floor." —
