A Roosevelt couple suffered minor burns in a weekend fire that destroyed their eastern Utah home.

Roosevelt Fire Chief Lee Rockwood said the fire, called in about 9 p.m. Sunday, gutted the residence at 700 S. 200 East.

The man and woman reportedly heard a popping sound from their back porch, went to investigate, and sustained the burns when the flames spread into the house proper shortly after they opened their back door.

The couple, who were treated at Uintah Basin Medical Center in Vernal and then released, were taking shelter with family.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday.
