Salt Lake City radio station KBEE-FM better known as B98.7 made a format change this weekend, and if it wasn't for the station's on-air announcements, you might not have noticed.
Cumulus Media, the station's Atlanta-based owners, announced Friday that B98.7 was switching to a "adult contemporary," after nearly two years with a format called "hot adult contemporary" (or "hot AC" for short).
"It's really a homecoming for KBEE to return to its AC roots, and we think listeners will love the new sound and feel of the station," program director Dain Craig said in a statement.
What's the difference? "Hot AC" plays a little more mainstream pop and alt-rock songs, aimed at 30-somethings. Regular "adult contemporary" skews a bit older, with a mix of current pop songs and older (like from the '80s) songs.
But in reality, if you can tell the difference between "AC" and "hot AC," you probably work in radio.
The other noticeable changes come in on-air personnel. Craig and new co-host Mandi Hildt will run the morning show, and Bobbi Maxwell is the new midday host. In the evenings, the station is adding the syndicated "John Tesh Show."
