Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank on Thursday issued a reminder to residents to take steps to prevent the theft of their property.

Burbank and Detective Robert Ungricht launched a four-minute video highlighting larceny, which is the theft of personal property. Salt Lake City detectives typically see an average of 75 new cases a month.

Some tips to prevent theft:

• Place valuables out of sight when going to clubs, shopping or other large gatherings like sporting events.

• Businesses should place product away from entrances to discourage "grab-and-dash" crimes.
