Gov. Gary Herbert's new budget proposal released yesterday had a rather notable exception — for readers of this blog, anyway.
An approximately $5.6 million exception. That's right, the proposal doesn't set aside anything to pay the millions owed to Bruce Wisan, the administrator of the polygamous sect property trust once controlled by Warren Jeffs, and his attorneys.
A judge ordered Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff to make the payment (though the taxpayer money would eventually be repaid).
Shurtleff asked for the money in his budget request, said deputy spokesman Ryan Bruckman, but the governor didn't include it in his proposal.
The Utah Board of Examiners, which is made up of the governor, attorney general, and state auditor, will now hear the request on Tuesday and decide whether to recommend the Legislature pay it.
