Syracuse police want the public's help to identify whoever killed a horse earlier this week.

Responding to a report of a dead horse, officers arrived near 2600 W. 2850 South about 5 p.m. Thursday to find the thoroughbred broodmare with a wound to its side. The horse was valued at more than $10,000, according to a police news release.

The property owner last saw the horse alive about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, though investigators believe the crime occurred within a few hours of their arrival, the release adds.

Anyone with information about the death is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at 801-825-4400.
