Taylorsville • Cheyenne Pratt said her last high school at-bat will stick with her for the rest of her life.

The Spanish Fork senior hit a three-run, two-out walk-off home run Friday to give the Dons a 4-1 victory over crosstown rival Maple Mountain and their first 4A softball state crown since 2011.

Pratt, who walked to provide Spanish Fork with the tying run in the bottom of the third, was emotional after the Dons accepted the gold trophy and did a choreographed dance together to celebrate.

"We just wanted to win it so bad," she sad. "I just swung hard. I will remember it forever."

Spanish Fork coach Don Andrews said it was difficult to beat Maple Mountain once, let alone three times, as his team did with its crosstown rival this season.

"We have a pretty good lineup, and sooner or later something had to break for either team," said Andrews. "Fortunately, it was ours."

He said the Dons struggled mentally early in the season and that he was happy with the way they fought back.

Spanish Fork sophomore pitcher Cambrie Hazel started out shakily, giving up a first-inning home run to Maple Mountain's Bailey Witney. But she soon settled down.

"I was a little disappointed at first," she said. "I believed in my team and thought we could get the runs back. I think it made me more calm. We worked so hard for this. It was crazy. I was just so happy."

The fact that Spanish Fork and Maple Mountain played for both the state baseball and softball titles Friday shows that good facilities, excellent coaching and great community support for the diamond sports is paying big dividends.

"We work hard," said Andrews. "That's the most important thing I can tell you. They get good coaching from the time when they are 9 or 10 years old. It's kind of fun [playing Maple Mountain]. The title goes back to Spanish [Fork] either way. I like it that way."

How tough was Utah County's Region 8 this year?

"Our region is really tough this year," said Maple Mountain coach Cassie Reese, who played for and coached with Andrews at Spanish Fork before moving across the city. "There was Spanish and us and Springville and Salem. We can't be disappointed. We fought to the end."
