His awareness and quick-thinking actions while on duty as a patroller helped save the life of a little girl who was about to run out in front of traffic in front of the school.

Mason accepted the highest award given to a AAA School Safety Patroller, the Lifesaving Medal. He joined an elite group. Only 411 patrollers from around the nation have received this honor since 1949. Past honorees have been U.S. presidents and Supreme Court justices.
His awareness and quick thinking actions while on duty as a patroller helped save the life of a little girl who was about to run out in front of traffic in front of the school. He said that he was glad he was paying attention and did as he was trained to do.
