A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter rescued a stranded hiker from atop a cliff in Little Cottonwood Canyon early Tuesday morning.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the 36-year-old man and a friend had begun hiking late Monday afternoon from Tanner's Flat and as darkness fell, got lost atop Lisa Falls. The friend was able to hike out to a search and rescue command post and pinpoint the first man's position, from where he was retrieved at 1:26 a.m.

The man was landed at the command post, located at the mouth of the canyon, examined by Unified Fire Authority paramedics and released.
