Mostly sunny skies and highs in the 80s are expected in northern Utah this weekend, although there is a slight chance of rain in some areas.

The National Weather Service is predicting highs mostly in the mid to upper 80s along the Wasatch Front on Saturday and Sunday, with the temperature possibly reaching 90 in a few locations. Lows in the 50s to the low 60s are expected, with the thermometer dipping to the 40s in higher elevations.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms could develop starting Saturday afternoon. Lingering moisture could continue to produce showers after that, mainly across south central Utah on Sunday and in the northern part of the state on Monday, according to the weather service.

Rain also could fall this weekend in southern Utah, including St. George and Zion National Park, where there is a 20 percent of precipitation on Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening. Highs are predicted to reach the upper 90s and overnight lows should be about 70 in the south.

The weather service says temperatures will climb into the 90s and low 100s in Utah for the first half of the week.
