A federal judge on Monday swore in new U.S. Attorney for Utah John W. Huber.
U.S. District Judge Dee Benson administered the oath of office at a ceremony at the federal courthouse in Salt Lake City. A public ceremony is to take place sometime this summer.
Huber, 47, was nominated by President Barack Obama on Feb. 4 and the four-year appointment was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Wednesday. Carlie Christensen has been the interim U.S. Attorney for Utah since David Barlow resigned in July 2014 to go into private practice.
Huber has been with the U.S. Attorney's Office for more than 10 years and has prosecuted cases involving violent gangs, gun-related crime and international terrorism. He has been the National Security Section chief, executive assistant U.S. Attorney and acting first assistant U.S. Attorney.
Huber will oversee about 85 employees in Salt Lake City and a branch office in St. George.
He completed his law degree at the University of Utah, became a prosecutor in the Weber County Attorney's Office and for West Valley City before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office in 2002.
