Three adults who were home when a fire started at their Salt Lake City residence were able to escape, and firefighters rescued two cats that were having difficulty breathing.
Firefighters gave them oxygen through oxygen masks specially sized and designed for cats. Both felines recovered and were reunited with their owners.
One of the human occupants was evaluated at the scene for possible smoke inhalation but was not transported to a hospital, the fire department reported.
The Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to the home at 1135 W. Arapahoe Ave. (650 South) at 10:52 a.m.
The fire caused heavy damage to the backside of the two-story house before moving into the attic, the fire department reported. But firefighters had the blaze under control within 30 minutes and kept the fire from spreading to nearby homes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
