Police have identified a man shot to death last week by a Parowan police officer.
A 911 caller reported about 9 p.m. Thursday that Rocco Joseph Palmisano III was striking a boy, age 9 or 10, in the face.
Officer Tyler Uresk approached Palmisano, 50, in his driveway near 800 West and 200 South.
Palmisano, possibly intoxicated, allegedly became aggressive and pointed his handgun at Uresk, said Cedar City police Sgt. Jimmy Roden. As Palmisano continued to approach, Uresk fired, striking Palmisano twice. Roden would not say where on his body Palmisano was wounded.
The officer and paramedics tried to provide medical aid, but Palmisano died before he could be taken to the hospital, Roden said.
Uresk was not injured; he will remain on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
Palmisano has no record of felony charges in Utah state courts.
