Three people were hurt when a patient in an ambulance allegedly grabbed the wheel and forced it to roll on the freeway.

About 2:30 a.m. Friday, paramedics were transporting a psychiatric patient to a behavioral clinic. But near 11900 South on Interstate 15 in Draper, the patient somehow grabbed the wheel and caused the ambulance to roll over, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The paramedics and the patient were taken to the hospital in fair condition, Roden said.

UHP spokesman Cameron Roden said the patient may be charged with aggravated assault if the investigation proves he rolled the ambulance on purpose.
