A Salt Lake County search team rescued a hiker from the cliffs above Lake Blanche in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

A different hiker was near the lake Friday afternoon when he or she heard the stranded hiker yelling, said Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell.

Rescuers eventually found him in the cliffs above the lake — unhurt, but stuck in "a spot where he couldn't go up, down, left or right," Bell said.

The thunderstorm that rolled into Salt Lake Valley Friday evening shut down using a rescue helicopter. The rescuers moved the man off the cliffs instead, and walked him out of the area in the rain, Bell said.
