This was one tough way to start a season.
The Lone Peak volleyball team did not play a match until Tuesday, more than two weeks after most Utah high school teams started.
To add on, the Knights opened against Morgan, last year's state runners-up in Class 3A which clawed its way to a 25-17, 26-24, 30-32, 25-22 victory on Tuesday.
"These are the matches that you want this time of the year," Morgan coach Liz Wiscombe said. "It makes you tougher."
With Lone Peak (0-1) trying to force a fifth game, Trojans middle hitter Aubrey Sanders that helped Morgan (4-0) close it out.
Down 18-15, the Trojans got a 4-1 run in the fourth from Sanders behind a variety of shots that included soft shots over a Lone Peak block that was getting tougher to power through.
"I'd rather hit it, but if it's a point it's good," said Sanders, who finished with 19 kills.
Jaiden Farr also collected 15 kills for the winners. The Knights got 21 kills from Kacie Huntsman.
Morgan was in command, leading 23-19 late in the second game. But a 5-1 Knights run, including two kills from Huntsman and putaways by Ally Anderson and Katelyn Erickson tied the score at 24. That's when Farr punched home a winner to stem the tide. Lone Peak then put a kill attempt into the net as Morgan took a 2-0 game lead.
The third game was even closer, this time with the Knights winning. With the Trojans up 30-29, Lone Peak extended the match on three straight misses from Morgan.
"I'm pretty excited about what I saw today," Knights coach Deanna Meyer said. "We came out a little shakey with first match jitters, but we started to battle and play hard."
