Salt Lake City police were investigating after hikers found a badly decomposed human body along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail on Wednesday night.
Detectives recovered photo I.D. from the remains, but said an autopsy will be needed to confirm the dead man's identification, as well as the cause of death.
The hikers reported the grisly discovery about 7 p.m. as they trekked on the popular trail just east of the University of Utah campus and near the This Is the Place Monument.
