A high school student died late Friday when her car collided with a semi truck.

Troopers identified the deceased as Ashley Hansen, 18, of Roosevelt. She was a senior at Union High School.

Hansen was driving a 1998 Buick east on U.S. Highway 40 near Duchesne. The Buick drifted out of its lane and collided head-on with a westbound semi-truck hauling crude oil, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

Fatigue may have contributed to the crash, which occurred just before midnight, according to the UHP.

The driver of the tanker, which caught fire, was able to get out of his vehicle safely, UHP said.

"The crude oil in the tanker was not compromised in the fire and the driver was treated on scene for minor injuries," UHP added.

Hansen was pronounced dead at the scene.
