Snail Awards given to Utah farmers, producers

Slow Food Utah announced the winners of its 2015 Snail Awards recently. The awards recognize those who support and promote local, sustainable food. Awards were given in three categories:

Farmer/producer • Pete Rasmussen, owner of Sandhill Farms, a certified organic, small-scale vegetable farm in Eden that produces heirloom garlic and more than 50 varieties of vegetables sold to local restaurants and grocery stores.

Restaurant or chef • Adam Kreisel, owner of Chaia Cucina, has been a contributing chef to Slow Food's annual Feast of Five Senses fundraiser since its beginning more than decade ago.

Community leader or local business • John and Casee Francis, owners of Amour Spreads, a producer of jams and marmalades made from fresh, local ingredients.

Applications for 2016 grants will be available Jan. 1.

Swedish holiday buffet at IKEA

IKEA in Draper will hold its annual Christmas Julbord buffet featuring traditional Swedish favorites including smoked salmon, meatballs with lingonberries, gravlax, Prinskorv sausages, ham, salads, vegetables, assorted dessert and beverages.

When • Friday, Dec. 11; seatings at 1:30, 4 and 6:30 p.m.

French toast and Santa

Kneaders Bakery & Café will hold an Evening with Santa. Get a photo with the man in the big red suit and purchase Kneader's popular chunky cinnamon French toast. All proceeds benefit Primary Children's Hospital. It is the only day of the year the cafe's French toast is served after 11 a.m.

Utah kids test new sandwich menu

Utah is a test market for Which Wich Superior Sandwiches' new children's menu. Stores in Midvale, Orem and Lehi were selected to try out the new menu before its national roll out. Developed with the help of mothers across the country, the menu includes various sandwiches for the younger set including grilled cheese, a cheese pizzawich, peanut butter and jelly and a meat and cheese roll without bread.
