Salt Lake City firefighters rescued a man from a downtown motel that caught fire Sunday.

About 2:40 p.m., a fire started in a third-floor room of The Rodeway Inn, at 616 S. 200 West, according to a Salt Lake City Fire Department news release. When firefighters arrived, they could see heavy smoke coming from the room's window — and the room's occupant, standing on a ledge.

Firefighters used a ladder to rescue the man.

The blaze was contained to the room and under control within 10 minutes of the firefighters' arrival.

"There was smoke damage throughout the third floor, and water damage on the first, second and third floors," according to the news release.

Investigators are "in contact with a person of interest as they look to determine the cause of the fire," the news release adds.

Though the motel was evacuated, the guests were later allowed return. No injuries were reported.
