Two outside law enforcement agencies are investigating the death of a Box Elder County jail inmate.

Chief Box Elder Sheriff's Deputy Dale Ward said detectives from the Cache County Sheriff's Office and Brigham City Police Department were conducting a probe after 45-year-old Rex Iverson, who was found unresponsive in a holding cell Friday afternoon.

Deputies, who had just checked on Iverson 30 minutes previous to the discovery, were joined by paramedics in trying to revive Iverson, but he was later pronounced dead at the Brigham City Hospital.

Ward would not provide details on how Iverson appeared to have died, though he did say the man was in the holding cell by himself, and no foul play was suspected.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Iverson reportedly had been arrested Jan. 23 on a warrant related to his failure to appear for a civil case.
