A woman is in critical condition after a crash in Emery County on Sunday.

About 2:40 p.m., a male was driving eastbound on U.S. Route 6 when Utah Highway Patrol troopers say he dropped his phone and become distracted.

As he leaned down to pick it up, his Audi drifted and sideswiped a 20-foot, double-axle trailer that was being towed by a pickup truck near mile post 273, according to a UHP report. The spot is about 12 miles into Emery County from its boundary with Carbon County.

"The Audi spun around and collided nearly head on with another passenger car," driven by a woman in her 20s, the UHP report reads. Trapped inside the car, the woman had to be rescued from it before she was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

A second, older woman in the same car was taken to the hospital, as well.

The Audi caught fire and had to be extinguishd. Its driver and his passenger were not hurt, according to UHP.

No one in the pickup truck was hurt.
