New York • Three baby lemurs are making their debut at the Bronx Zoo.
The babies were born in late March and on Thursday, the public will be able to see them. But, spectators might have a hard time spotting them; newborns cling to their mothers and hide in their fur.
Lemurs have long, pointed noses and long tails. They are native to the island of Madagascar and are considered endangered mammals in the wild.
There are about 10 different species of lemur and the Bronx Zoo has six kinds. Of the three babies, two are ring-tailed and one is a brown collared lemur.
Ring-tailed lemurs are social and can climb but spend much of their time on the ground. Collared lemurs use their tails to balance while leaping through trees.
