Five players from three schools in Utah were selected Saturday during the final rounds of the 2016 major league draft.

Two BYU players were among the group — center fielder Brennon Lund by the Los Angeles Angels and right-hander pitcher Michael Rucker by the Chicago Cubs. Both went in the 11th round.

Also in the 11th round, the Texas Rangers took right-handed pitcher Joe Barlow of Salt Lake Community College.

In the 15th round, the Pittsburgh Pirates grabbed Utah Valley right-hander Danny Beddes and, in the 21st round, University of Utah right-handed pitcher Dalton Carroll went to the Atlanta Braves.

Lund, a junior from South Jordan, was an all-West Coast Conference selection this season. He led BYU in hitting (.387), hits (94), runs (56) and stolen bases (15).

On Twitter, Lund wrote, "I can't even describe all the blessings and opportunities that BYU has given me. I'm grateful for every moment on and off the baseball field."

Rucker, who is from Lake Tapps, Wash., went 11-1 with a 2.73 earned run average during his junior season. He struck out 94 batters in 1021⁄3 innings.

Barlow, who is from Riverton, went 3-3 with a 2.12 ERA for SLCC this spring. In 462⁄3 innings, he struck out 51 opposing batters.

Beddes was the 465th player picked in the draft. Since the school went to Division I in 2004, no Wolverine has been taken higher.

"I'm really happy for Danny," coach Eric Madsen said. "He's worked very hard to get to this point and was instrumental in helping us achieve our goal of getting to a regional [tournament] this year."

Beddes set school records for career wins, career strikeouts and strikeouts in a season. He finished 9-4 with a 4.56 ERA and 99 Ks while leading Utah Valley to its first NCAA appearance.

At Utah, Carroll was went 5-7 with a 5.04 ERA as a senior. He finished second on the Ute staff in strikeouts with 49 and earned Pac-12 wins over UCLA and Washington State. In the victory over UCLA, Carroll went the distance, throwing 146 pitches.

The only player from Utah taken in the first 10 rounds of the draft was Pleasant Grove High School catcher Payton Henry. Milwaukee took him in the sixth round on Friday.
