Posted: 2:10:02 PM- WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Senate has approved a new U.S. Attorney for Utah, Brett Tolman, a Provo native who previously served as chief counsel for crime and terrorism to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The Senate confirmed Tolman to the position in a voice vote Friday.
"Brett Tolman is the right man for this important position," said Sen. Orrin Hatch.
Tolman replaces former U.S. Attorney for Utah Paul Warner, who was appointed a U.S. federal magistrate in Utah.
One of Tolman's chief responsibilities in the Senate was to work for renewal of the Patriot Act. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University law school and also worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in Utah.
President Bush nominated Tolman in June after a standoff between key Republican senators and the White House, which was pushing Kyle Sampson, a native Utahn and Justice Department chief of staff.
