Luke Skywalker is coming to Salt Lake Comic Con.

Mark Hamill, the actor who played the farmboy-turned-Jedi in the original "Star Wars" trilogy and in last year's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," is the latest guest booked to appear at the pop-culture event, organizers announced Tuesday.

According to Dan Farr, co-founder and show producer of Salt Lake Comic Con, it's the only U.S. comic convention appearance Hamill will make this year.

"For fans that felt a disturbance in the Force, it was Salt Lake Comic Con fans catching their breath when they heard Luke Skywalker is coming to Salt Lake City," Farr said in a statement.

Salt Lake Comic Con runs Sept. 1-3 at the Salt Palace Convention Center. Hamill will be on hand Thursday, Sept. 1, for photo-ops and autograph signings, and will appear at a panel in the Salt Palace's Grand Ballroom.

Hamill is best known for playing Luke Skywalker, the naive Tatooine farmboy who joins the rebellion against the evil Empire, only to learn that the Empire's most notorious leader, Darth Vader, is actually his father.

Hamill starred in three "Star Wars" films — the original in 1977 (now referred to as "Episode IV: A New Hope"), "The Empire Strikes Back" (1980) and "Return of the Jedi" (1983). In last year's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Hamill reprised the role in a memorable finale. He is slated to return in the eighth installment, to be released in December 2017.

Hamill is well known as a voice actor in animated cartoons. His most famous voice role is as The Joker from 1992 on "Batman: The Animated Series" to this year's "Batman: The Killing Joke." He also appeared in the action spy thriller "Kingsman: The Secret Service."

Hamill recently filmed a role in Salt Lake City in the comedy "Brigsby Bear," starring and co-written by "Saturday Night Live" performer Kyle Mooney, set for release in 2017.
