The Salt Lake County Fair opened Wednesday, marking its 80th year with traditional fair events and modern entertainment. Here are photos from opening day. Details below on what's coming up:

When • Through Saturday, Aug. 20, 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, noon to 10 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Where • Salt Lake County Equestrian Center, 2011 W. 11400 South, South Jordan

Tickets • Admission to the fair is free; parking is $10 per car; tickets to special events and the City of Fun Carnival are available through the fair's website, http://www.slcfair.com.

Among the highlights of the fair:

• A free concert by country singer Darryl Worley, Wednesday at 7 p.m. Opening is up-and-coming country singer Stephanie Quayle. Tickets available at the Equestrian Center box office, Burt Brothers Tires locations, and the Z104.3 office at 1285 W. 2320 South.

• Monster trucks from Pro Quad War Racing will be in action in the grandstand Thursday at 7 p.m. Girl Power Monster Truck Racing and Larry Quick's Ghost Rider are featured. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children (2 to 12).

• "Old School Rules" demolition derbies Friday and Saturday. Gates open at 6 p.m. both nights. Tickets for Friday's "family night" are $10 for children (2 to 12), and $15 for teens and adults. Tickets to Saturday's show are $18 each.

• Competitive events — creative arts and ceramics, home arts, photography and fine arts — will fill the arena.

• Livestock exhibits, Noah's Ark Petting Zoo, Hypno Hick, 50/50 BMX, The Great Bear Show, horse pulls, carnival rides, fair food and food trucks, a beer garden for adults, and musical acts at the stage near the fair entrance.
