A small tornado briefly touched down in southern Utah on Friday afternoon.

The funnel cloud hovered between Bryce Canyon and Red Canyon along Utah Highway 12 about 1:30 p.m., according the National Weather Service.

There is no known damage due to the tornado, which landed about six miles from Panguitch.

"Though rare," Bryce Canyon National Park tweeted, "cyclonic activity can occur at high elevation."

The area was also hit by heavy rain and hail. A flash flood warning is in effect until 7 p.m. for the Escalante River drainage in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.
