The Utah State Fair continues its 11-day run this weekend at the Utah State Fairpark, 1000 W. North Temple, Salt Lake City. Gates open today at 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for children (6 to 12) or seniors (65 and older), at the gates or through Smith's Tix.

• The Salt Lake Greek Festival returns, today through Sunday, to Holy Trinity Cathedral, 279 S. 300 West, Salt Lake City. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3, at the door; free for kids 5 and under.

• Danish heavy-metal band Volbeat performs tonight at The Complex, 536 W. 100 South, Salt Lake City. Opening: Killswitch Engage, Black Wizard. Show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $51.50, at Smith's Tix.

• Post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil performs tonight at In the Venue, 219 S. 600 West, Salt Lake City. Opening: Neck Deep, I Prevail. Show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $32, at Smith's Tix.

• Wayne "The Train" Hancock, known as "the king of juke joint swing," performs tonight at Liquid Joe's, 1249 E. 3300 South, Salt Lake City. Opening: Jack Wilkinson and the Elders. Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20, at Smith's Tix and 24Tix.

• The Utah Symphony starts its new fall season with a program of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, tonight and Saturday at Abravanel Hall, 123 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. The program begins with Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks. Then pianist Jonathan Biss is guest soloist on Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1. Concluding the program is Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony. Thierry Fischer conducts. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. both nights. Tickets available at ArtTix.

• Jazz/R&B singer Dianne Reeves headlines the first JazzSLC show of the season, tonight at the Capitol Theatre, 50 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $33.50, at ArtTix.

• '70s/'80s pop-rock band Starship featuring Mickey Thomas performs tonight at the Sandy Amphitheater, 9400 S. 1300 East, Sandy, and Saturday to close out the "Summer Nights Under the Stars" series at Kenley Amphitheater, 403 N. Wasatch Blvd., Layton. Shows start at 8 p.m. both nights.
