One of the great treats any Utahn can experience is stopping at one of the dozen or so fruit stands on old U.S. 89 south of Brigham City between Willard and Perry to buy a fresh peach or even a pie or parfait.

The peaches are on and the stands are starting to get crowded.

That's also a reminder of some major Utah festivals and fairs that open this weekend.

The big one is the Utah State Fair that opened Thursday in Salt Lake City that celebrates the state's agriculture roots in a mix of livestock, carnival rides, entertainment and commercial exhibits.

For information on hours and daily events at the state fair, see http://www.utahstatefair.com.

But two others are worth noting.

Brigham City's venerable Peach Days, one of the state's oldest and best festivals, is under way with a number of major activities Friday and Saturday.

The event's famous SCUBA burgers, a longtime culinary favorite, will be served Friday and Saturday along with, no doubt, a number of peach-themed treats.

Peach days includes craft vendors, a carnival, softball tournament, classic car show, parades with the big one Saturday morning, nightly music, a race and motorcycle show.

Go expecting big crowds.

The Salt Lake City Greek Festival, which always draws huge crowds, opens Friday and runs through Sunday at the Greek Orthodox Church in Salt Lake City. It includes great food and entertainment. For a schedule and details, log on to http://www.saltlakegreekfestival.com.

The Old Capital Arts and Living History Festival in Fillmore on the grounds of the original state capitol building is another event worth checking out. It runs through Saturday.

This festival includes entertainment, living history, arts, vendors and storytelling.
