Police identified the body of a 26-year-old West Jordan man Thursday after finding it wrapped in a plastic tarp in Butterfield Canyon on Wednesday.

Unified police Lt. Brian Lohrke confirmed that the body of Alejandro Reyes had been discovered Wednesday, and that his death was being investigated as a homicide.

It was uncertain how long the remains had been in the canyon, but Reyes was last seen by his family Saturday and was reported missing Wednesday.

The cause of death is still under investigation, but Friday morning UPD confirmed that Reyes' 2002 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck had been found by police in Riverton late Thursday night.

The vehicle is being processed for possible evidence.
