Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Ellsworth — who was struck by a car and remained in critical condition for four days before his death — will be laid to rest Wednesday, a trooper says.

A public viewing will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Willard Stake Center, 8230 S. Highway 89 in Willard, said UHP Lt. Lee Perry.

Ellsworth's public funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Weber State University's Dee Events Center, Perry said. After the ceremony, Ellsworth's body will be taken to the Brigham City Cemetery.

Ellsworth had stopped to assist with a downed power line in Box Elder County about 9:45 p.m. on Nov. 18 and was trying to alert the driver of a semitrailer truck about the power line when a car struck him, police said. The driver of that car was a teenage girl.

Ellsworth, a 32-year-old Utah native, is survived by his wife, Janica, and three sons.

Police escorted Ellsworth's body from Intermountain Medical Center in Murray to Ogden on Friday, according to KUTV.
