St. George • Utah has another incorporated municipality. It's Cedar Highlands, located approximately five miles from Cedar City.
The Spectrum newspaper in St. George reports that Cedar Highlands is the first Utah municipality to be incorporated in southern Utah's Iron County since Brian Head in 1975.
Supporters of incorporation for Cedar Highlands started the process by gathering enough signatures for an incorporation question to be placed on the Nov. 8 ballot, and voters in Cedar Highlands approved the ballot measure 79-44.
State Director of Elections Mark Thomas says Cedar Highlands cannot officially collect taxes for its own use or become a town until residents organize elected officials, which occur in late 2017.
