Weber State Hall of Fame coach Sarkis "Sark" Arslanian died Sunday in St. George at age 92.
Arslanian coached at Weber State from 1965 to 1972 and still leads the program in winning percentage (.641) with a 50-26-2 overall record. He coached the Wildcats to two Big Sky titles in 1965 and 1968, the only coach in program history to do so. He also led Weber State to its highest-ever national ranking at No. 3 in 1967.
"Sark was truly a coaching legend and was an incredibly important part of building Weber State into prominence," Weber State athletic director Jerry Bovee said in a release. "His 'Sark's Boy's' players will continue his legacy at Weber State. He was a great coach and leader and will always be an important part of Wildcat football."
Arslanian was born in Fresno, Calif., but graduated from Granite High School in 1941 and went on to obtain degrees from Dixie College, the University of Utah and Utah State University.
His coaching career began at Central Junior High School in Salt Lake City before he returned to Dixie College to become athletic director, and the head coach for football, baseball and track.
After eight seasons at Weber State, he became head coach at Colorado State, winning a combined 158 games in 26 years coaching at Dixie, Weber State and in Fort Collins.
Arslanian was inducted into the Weber State Hall of Fame in 1991 and was proceeded in coaching by his son Dave, who is also a member of the school's Hall of Fame after leading the Wildcats from 1989 to 1997.
