The pop-culture conversation has been dominated, of course, by the death of actor/writer/wit Carrie Fisher. But there are some other items of note:

• Scarlett Johansson was the top-grossing actor in 2016 — beating out her "Captain America: Civil War" co-star Chris Evans because she also had "Hail, Caesar!" drawing crowds this year. [Forbes]

• Ariana Grande took to Twitter to call out a male fan who "objectified" her in an encounter with her and her boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller. [People]

• Two notable deaths in popular culture: Actor George S. Irving, a Tony-winning character actor best known for giving voice to the villain Heat Miser in the Rankin/Bass Christmas special "The Year Without a Santa Claus," died at the age of 94; and author Richard Adams, who wrote the beloved young-adult novel "Watership Down," died at the age of 96.
