Salt Lake City ushered in 2017 in glittering style as EVE WinterFest on Saturday.

The evening was to culminate at midnight with the giant MirrorBall drop at the Salt Palace Convention Center, followed by a laser show and fireworks. The orb, which weighs more than 2,400 pounds and has a circumference of more than 60 feet, is touted as the largest disco ball in the United States.

Salt Lake City's Downtown Alliance expanded EVE WinterFest, in its eight year, to six days, with events, from plays to concerts to fire dancers, running throughout the week in 15 theaters, museums and other venues inside and out.
