A look at three standout performers and five key numbers from Friday's Day 1 of the Classes 1A and 2A state wrestling meets at Utah Valley University.
Shandon Bradford
The Monticello senior is on track to complete his progression in the final tournament of his high school career. He finished third his freshman year and second the last two. He's now earned his third straight appearance in the 1A championship round, this time at 132 pounds.
Dallin Ewart
The senior recorded two quick pins at 170 to reach the semifinals and help Delta take a commanding 32-point lead in the 2A team standings, but the Rabbit senior is just ecstatic to be here. He's missed all three of his other state appearances because of injuries that occurred before the tournament.
Wyatt Weston
The Rich junior is relishing his first opportunity to wrestle for a 1A state title after scoring falls in his earlier matches at 195. He predicted that his opponent would be Altamont's Cody Miles, and it is. The two never have competed against each other.
4.5
That's the point spread between Altamont and Duchesne going into the final day of the 1A tournament. The Longhorns have 138.5 points to the Eagles' 134.
10
The difference between second and fifth place in the 2A bracket. North Summit has 100 points, Millard 99, North Sevier 95 and South Summit 90. It should be quite a race for the silver trophy Saturday.
163
The number of 2A matches settled by pins during the first day of the state tournament.
7
The number of pins to decide matches in the 1A 145-pound bracket. There were only eight matches. The one that didn't end in a pin? Monticello's Tyler Draper earned a 16-5 major decision over Bryce Valley's Roman Platt.
5
The total number of combined losses between the two wrestlers who will compete for the 1A 126 title. Panguitch's Kolton Owens (12-1) will face Milford's Stetson Wright (24-5) for the crown.
