A look at standout performers and key numbers from Monday's opening round of the Class 5A boys' basketball state tournament at Utah Valley University and the University of Utah.

Trevin Knell

The Woods Cross senior proved why he's one of the state's best players by scoring 26 points, including going a perfect 8 for 8 from the free-throw line, in the win over Orem. He added seven rebounds and four steals.

Elijah Shelton

The Highland junior forward helped carry the Rams into the quarterfinals with a game-high 17 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and a steal plus a lot of hustle on the floor. His final rebound and assist set up the buzzer-beater that pushed the Rams into the quarterfinals.

Stockton Ashby

The Hillcrest senior, the oldest of three brothers playing for the Huskies, scored the last five points for the his team, including the game-winner with 5 seconds.

Andrew Slack

The Springville senior center scored nine of the Red Devils' final 10 points and finished with a game-best 21 points. He has committed to play offensive line for Weber State's football team.

Matt Lindsey

The senior leader for Olympus finished with a team-high 23 points, using a balanced effort in each half — 11 points in the first half, 12 in the second half — to help the Titans advance to the quarterfinals.

Michael Scheffner

The Corner Canyon senior scored 14 points and led the Chargers with six rebounds from his guard position. He also dished out three assists and recorded three steals.

Tyler Boyack

The Maple Mountain senior point guard shot 6 of 9 from the field, including 4 of 5 from long distance, to rack up 16 points with four assists, three rebounds and a steal in about three quarters of work to help lead the Golden Eagles blow out Murray.

Dalten Stewart

The Timpanogos senior guard scored 17 points, including 11 in the first half, as the Timberwolves outran Ogden and set up a showdown with Olympus.

The field-goal percentage for Maple Mountain in its opening-round win over Murray. The Eagles made 27 of their 45 attempts. They were only slightly less effective from 3-point range, going 8 of 15 for 53 percent.
