A West Valley City man has been arrested and charged with raping a 9-year-old girl.
Salt Lake County jail records show that Armando Zepeda, 59, remained incarcerated Saturday on one first-degree child rape and aggravated sexual abuse of a child counts. Bail had been set at $100,007.
The charges stem from an incident reported Monday. The girl told West Valley City police she had gone over to Zepeda's home to play with friends and while she was there, he attacked her.
Court documents say when the girl returned home and told her mother of the assault, the mother examined her, saw evidence that sexual intercourse had occurred and took the girl to the hospital and notified police.
Zepeda's initial court appearance is scheduled for Monday before 3rd District Judge Vernice Trease.
If convicted, Zepeda could face a prison term of 25 years to life.
