Police have identified a Springville man who was killed Thursday in a collision with a suspected drunken driver on Interstate 15.

The man's female passenger was injured in the crash.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Steven Winward said the accident occurred about 2:40 p.m. Thursday in a construction zone of the freeway's southbound lanes just south of Provo.

Killed was the driver of a Pontiac Grand Prix, Brice C. Mickelsen, 71. UHP said he suffered severe head trauma.

A 39-year-old passenger, Mary Jacobsen of Springville, was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center after complaining of neck pain. She was later released, Winward said Friday.

UHP investigators say it appears a Toyota Corolla, driven by Diane V. Mott, 58, also from Springville, was moving erratically in the middle lane before crossing into Mickelsen's right-hand lane and striking his car on the driver's side. Mickelsen's Grand Prix then slammed into a barrier, careened back into traffic and rolled.

Mott was taken to UVRMC to be examined, and upon release Thursday night was arrested and booked into Utah County Jail on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Winward said UHP would screen both DUI and automobile homicide charges with the Utah County Attorney's Office.

Mott remained incarcerated Friday. No bail had been set.
