A hang glider pilot from Midvale died Saturday morning after a mid-air collision at Point of the Mountain.

Gordon Jack Boyce, 65, died after colliding with paraglider Virgil Welch Davis, 40 about 10:40 a.m. Davis landed safely, but Boyce lost control and hit the side of the hill, said Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff's Office. Davis, who is a physician, and another person at the scene began performing CPR on Boyce but it became apparent he had died, Cannon said.

Davis was taken to a hospital for minor injuries, Cannon said.

"We have crashes occasionally and injuries sometimes happen, but it's rare that we get fatalities," Cannon said. "You just don't see crashes that are this serious very often. They're a pretty careful group."
