Dear readers,

Since launching our new comments platform back in June, we have had some growing pains. While we have come a long way in stomping the bugs and making it more stable, we have heard you asking for a speedier, more reliable system.

Beginning Nov. 1, we are partnering with Disqus, one of the Web's leading comment tool providers. This is a nationally-supported platform used by thousands of websites, and it's one that will remain flexible and reliable for us as our site continues to grow.

The good news:

• Comments will load faster and be more reliable.

• Your new login will allow you to comment with the same ID at many sites across the web (CNN, Mashable, many newspapers and countless blogs).

• If you'd prefer, you can comment using your Facebook or Twitter account, meaning no new registration of any kind.

• Reply threads will go down an additional level, allowing you to respond to a response. And threads can be collapsed if you're not interested in reading one.

• You'll be able to subscribe to comment threads via email or RSS, so you'll be notified as soon as someone comments on a story you're interested in.

•You'll also be able to sort comments by newest first, oldest first, best rated and most popular.

Now, on to the bad news:

• You will no longer use your TribTalk username for comments on the main site.

• Disqus does not offer an "ignore" feature — something we'll miss as much as you. It will be up to you to take the high road; report and ignore those who try to bait you into arguments.

• You'll still be able to give a comment a thumbs-up, but the thumbs down will go away.

As we move through the changes, it's important to remember why we're doing this: we want our comment system to be the fastest and most flexible option for any and all Utahns wishing to make their voices heard.

If you'd like to see a preview of the new system, try it out on a duplicate of this story here: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/hometest/50500214-143/comment-comments-disqus-system.html.csp . This would be a great time to register your chosen username with Disqus or to optionally link your Facebook or Twitter account to it.

You may see some visual changes as we finalize our partnership with Disqus, or you may see a little downtime as we make changes. If you find any problems or have any questions, please comment here or email us at webmaster@sltrib.com .

Thanks for making your voice heard and being a part of our passionate online community,
