"Mr. C" has passed on.

Actor Tom Bosley, best known as the kindly dad, Mr. Cunningham, on 11 seasons of the sitcom "Happy Days," died early this morning in a Palm Springs, Calif., hospital after a battle with lung cancer. He was 83.

Besides his long-running role on "Happy Days," he also played the crime-solving priest in "The Father Dowling Mysteries," and won a Tony on Broadway in "Fiorello!," the musical story of New York City mayor Fiorello LaGuardia.

He stayed active and acting nearly to the end, appearing in the Jennifer Lopez comedy "The Back-Up Plan," which was released earlier this year.

Bosley made two notable appearances in Utah. He appeared in an episode of the made-in-Utah "Touched by an Angel" in 2002, and he and Michael Learned ("The Waltons") brought a touring production of "On Golden Pond" to Kingsbury Hall in 2007.
